Overview

Garudeya Tlogosari is the flagship batik product of Batik Tulis Lintang that combines two historical and symbolic patterns, namely Garudeya and Tlogosari. Garudeya batik is a symbol of the freedom of the soul that is shackled by tyranny, inspired by the relief in Kidal temple that depicts Garudeya freeing his mother from a giant.

On the other hand, the Tlogosari pattern, named after the home village of Batik Tulis Lintang’s founder, represents the spirituality that connects humans to their creator through the Tlogosari tree. This combination creates a batik fabric that is not only visually beautiful but also rich in meaning. Each piece of Garudeya Tlogosari batik fabric is designed for various purposes, such as shirts, sarongs, and daily wear.

The Philosophy

The philosophy of Garudeya Tlogosari batik includes two main elements: freedom and spirituality. The Garudeya pattern is taken from the Kidal temple relief that depicts Garudeya freeing his mother from the confinement of a giant, a symbol of the freedom of the shackled soul. On the other hand, the Tlogosari pattern comes from the cultivated Tlogosari tree in the founding village of Batik Tulis Lintang. The tree is believed to be a spiritual medium between humans and God, a powerful symbol of peace and spirituality. Through the combination of these two patterns, Garudeya Tlogosari batik is not only a work of art, but also a reminder of history, freedom, and deep spirituality. This philosophy is reflected in every piece of fabric produced, giving deeper meaning and value to the wearer.

The History of Pattern Discovery

The history of the discovery of Garudeya Tlogosari batik’s pattern is rooted in the in-depth research on past patterns conducted by Ita Fitriyah, the founder of Batik Tulis Lintang. The Garudeya pattern was found in a relief at Kidal temple that depicts Garudeya freeing his mother from a giant. On the other hand, the Tlogosari pattern comes from the name of the founder’s home village, which was previously known as Tlogosari Village. The Tlogosari tree in the village has a deep spiritual value that is considered as a connecting medium between humans and their creator. Through this in-depth research, Ita Fitriyah managed to combine these two historic and symbolic patterns into one beautiful and meaningful batik work. This discovery process shows Batik Tulis Lintang’s dedication to preserving and promoting Indonesia’s cultural heritage through research and innovation.

How to Make

The process of making Garudeya Tlogosari batik begins with manually drawing the pattern on a fabric using hot wax with canting (a special pen for batik making which stores hot wax and diffuses the melting wax onto fabric following designed patterns) which requires high accuracy and patience. After the pattern is drawn, the fabric is dipped into the prepared synthetic dye. Staining is done several times to get the desired color. After the coloring is complete, the fabric is dried and the remaining wax is removed by boiling. This process produces sharp and durable batik patterns. Every stage in the making of Garudeya Tlogosari batik is done with great care and expertise, ensuring that each piece of fabric produced is of high quality and artistry.
