Through Batik Tulis Lintang with the Bapang mask pattern, you not only bring cultural values, but also inspire future generations to love and preserve our rich culture.

The Philosophy

Bapang, as an iconic mask pattern of Malang Regency, tells the story of a character full of emotion and strength. With its long nose and bright red color, Bapang is identified with an angry antagonist. However, through Batik Tulis Lintang, we raise this Bapang pattern as a representative of the rich culture of Malang Regency. We believe that every region has its own mask character, and by presenting the Bapang pattern in our work, we contribute to the preservation and dissemination of local culture.

The History of Pattern Discovery

Bapang is one of the characters in the mask dance drama in Malang Regency, known as Jayasentika. As a regent of the Banjarpatoman Duchy under King Klana Sewandana, Bapang is portrayed as a character who is proud of flattery. Bapang is identified by his typical movements and attitudes such as puffing out his chest and exposing body strengths. Batik Tulis Lintang takes inspiration from these characteristics to depict the Bapang mask pattern in our batik fabrics.

How to Make

The creation of Bapang batik begins with manually drawing the pattern on the fabric using hot wax and a canting (a special pen for batik making which stores hot wax and diffuses the melting wax onto fabric following designed patterns) which requires a high level of precision and patience. After the pattern is drawn, the fabric is dipped into prepared synthetic dye, and this dyeing process is repeated several times to achieve the desired color. Once finished, the fabric is dried and the remaining wax is removed by boiling. This process produces sharp and durable batik patterns. Each stage of creating Bapang batik is carried out with meticulous attention and patience, ensuring that every piece of fabric produced has high quality and artistic beauty.

Materials

We choose high-quality materials to ensure that each Bapang batik fabric has durability and colors that do not fade easily. We use grade A fabric in the process of making this batik, so that every product produced is of superior quality and long-lasting. The synthetic dyes we use do not fade easily and waterglass as a color-locking agent keeps the batik patterns bright and does not fade. In this way, Bapang batik not only provides high-quality products but also plays a role in reducing fashion waste and preserving the environment.
