ta Fitriyah, Batik Lintang owner gives training to 258 kindergarten/ preschool teachers to paint batik using shibori technique during the IGTKI batik training at the Gedung Koperasi Mekar Guna in Malang on March 2, 2024.

Malang, March 2nd, 2024 - Batik Lintang educated 258 kindergarten/preschool teachers from Pakis District, Malang Regency, in batik training using shibori or jumputan techniques organized by the Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers Association (IGTKI) in Pakis District at the Mekar Guna Cooperative Building, on Saturday (2/3/2024).

By applying this technique in learning, all participants are expected to produce batik that can be considered as real products, namely jumputan batik.

“We have practiced painting on paper and and doing crayon coloring. Now this is the real form coloring batik, creating real batik products.”

Eva, one of the participants, expressed her impression that the training provided new batik-making variations.

“The impression is good and can be continued to make more variations for the batik method.”

She also planned to implement the shibori technique in school lessons using smaller fabrics and simpler folding techniques.

Another participant, Titin, also gave her response.

“The training was quite good, we got to know some shibori’s folding and binding techniques. My friends can be creative with the colors and creative with the folding and tying. Pretty good, amazing,” said Titin.

Ita Fitriyah (46), the owner of Batik Lintang, explained that the shibori technique involves folding and tying the fabric before dipping it into the dye solution.

She said the main objective of the training was to increase the learning capacity of kindergarten/preschool teachers in Pakis District. She added that this technique is relevant and important to be applied in the learning process at the kindergarten/preschool level.

“This material is not too heavy and is suitable for five-year-old children and under or preschool because the material is only about folding and binding techniques and then playing with colors,” she explained.

This training is expected to help the company of Batik Lintang to expand the market . By embracing parties in educational field, especially the kindergarten/preschool level, Batik Lintang hopes to reach a wider target market and to increase public awareness of batik culture.

Ita added that although similar training has been organized before, this training has a wider scope because it involves teachers from Pakis District. This is expected to have a more significant impact on improving learning capacity at that level.
