Batik Tulis Lintang Malang
SMPN 1 Pandaan Students Learn Batik Painting during P5 activity at Batik Lintang Gallery on November 12, 2024
Malang, November 12th, 2024 – Students of SMPN 1 Pandaan gained valuable experience in developing their character and creativity through the art of batik using a canting tool. This activity is part of Proyek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5), aiming to equip students with skills while instilling local cultural values.
The journey began at 7:30 AM from Pandaan, with students arriving at the Batik Lintang site in Malang at around 8:40 AM. Excitement was palpable, although some students seemed nervous about trying the canting technique for the first time.
Aldo Apriliano Sugianto, one of SMPN 1 Pandaan students, shared his experience. He admitted that he was initially fearful when using the canting tool, but he managed to overcome the challenge. “At first, I was a bit scared, afraid my lines would go off the track. Anyway, I finally completed my first piece, and it turns out to be a very valuable experience,” Aldo said enthusiastically.
This activity aligns with the implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka adopted by SMPN 1 Pandaan. Mrs. Leli, the Principal of SMPN 1 Pandaan, hopes that such activities boost students' love for local culture. “I hope that through this activity, students do not only learn more about batik but also eager to preserve it. Who knows, some might become batik entrepreneurs in the future,” she explained.
Beyond theoretical learning, students were also encouraged to directly practice batik-making. SMPN 1 Pandaan has consistently supported student creativity. Over the past two years, batik that has been designed by students, known as Batik Telang, has become the school's icon. Batik Telang serves as an obvious proof of the school’s effort to instill pride in national identity while training students' artistic spirit. Through this activity, the school hopes that students not only grasp the techniques of batik-making but also understand the philosophical meanings behind this traditional art. By learning about batik from an early age, students are expected to cherish and preserve the nation's cultural heritage.
“Our hope is that the younger generation will not only preserve batik as Indonesia’s cultural wealth but also introduce it to the future, ensuring it remains relevant and recognized on an international stage,” concluded Mrs. Leli.
