Malang, May 13th, 2024 - 350 An-Nur 2 Islamic Boarding School students attended the shibori batik training for 12th-grade students at Yaqowiy Hall, An-Nur 2 Islamic Boarding School Bululawang on Monday (13/5/2024). This training aims to increase the entrepreneurial spirit among students and provide skills that can be used to support their independence in the future.
Ita Fitriyah (46), founder of Batik Lintang and one of the teachers at the batik training, emphasized that the main goal of this shibori batik training is to increase entrepreneurship in education.
“The goal is to enhance entrepreneurial skills among students, particularly those graduating from high school, who will either enter the workforce or return to their communities,” she said. With this training, it is hoped that the students can develop their independence and entrepreneurship in the community.
The shibori technique was chosen because it is considered relevant and easy to understand by the students. Ita explained, “For basic techniques, shibori is one of the easiest to grasp, making it ideal for high school students. It can be independently developed and turned into a profitable business.” With a relatively simple technique, students can easily learn and develop it into a unique business.
There will be a following training after this shibori training. Ita mentioned a plan to develop the students’ batik skills to a professional level.
“We plan to develop the training to professional standards, hoping that An-Nur 2 Islamic Boarding School will produce its signature pattern by using shibori technique, incorporating both written and stamped batiks,” she said. These batik products are expected to be the hallmark of An-Nur 2 Islamic Boarding School and are made by the students themselves for the domestic market.
Ita also encouraged the students to be good entrepreneurs. “Thank you for being the future of batik, especially in written and innovative shibori batik. Your involvement strengthens our hopes for future generations, in education and youthful creativity,” Ita said.
One of the participants, Ratu Maulidya (18), stated that she joined the training because she found the activity interesting. “It’s really fun and engaging. I joined it because it was an exciting activity offered by the school,” Ratu said. She also expressed her impression after attending the training, “I’ve become more skilled at batik-making, something I had never tried before, and I look forward to future activities.”
Ratu also revealed that she has an idea to create a batik business after attending this training. “I’d consider it if I had the support,” she said. This shows that the training has succeeded in arousing the interest of the students to enter the batik business.
